We need you!

Mission Arlington/Mission Metroplex’s Front Room and Other Services

People first enter the mission through the doors of what we call our “front room.”  It is here that we first learn what people need and how we best can provide help.  The list below represents ways that you can become a volunteer through the ministry of our front room.

Greeters

A greeter provides a warm welcome to those in need, while helping people: 1) to sign-in and 2) to fill out their application for assistance, along with other forms as needed.

Data Entry

Every person being helped with Emergency Assistance through Mission Arlington’s front room fills out an application.  The data entry volunteer will take these applications and enter the data from them into a computer using a specially designed software program.

Counselors

A Mission Arlington emergency assistance counselor listens as individuals and families share their specific need, then connects them where possible to Mission Arlington/Mission Metroplex provisions.  A counselor needs to be someone who is both compassionate and discerning, as well as someone who desires to pray for and with people.

Food Pantry Sorters

A sorter moves food from the shelves of the food pantry into grocery-sized bags based upon the size and expressed need of each family.  The sorter then hands the groceries to the individual or family after they have been interviewed by the counselors in the front room.  The sorters also help keep the food pantry organized and clean.  They also place and organize the food on the pantry’s shelves as it comes in from the food warehouse.

Knowledgeable Volunteer PC Technicians

Skilled volunteers able to test donated machines and prepare them for giving away.  In addition, these individuals may be able to instruct other volunteers less knowledgeable.

Warehouse Organizers

Every day, perishable and non perishable food comes in to Mission Arlington. The food comes in each day in a variety of quantities and from many different sources.  A warehouse organizer receives the food being delivered and gets it ready for distribution.  A warehouse worker also helps to keep everything in the warehouse clean, neat and accessible.
