Mission Arlington

In the midst of astonishing reports about human need evident at every turn, our community continues to care for its own.

Despite these belt-tightening economic times, giving through Mission Arlington continues to stay strong in this season of Thanksgiving. As the saying goes: “It is truly more blessed to give than it is to receive.”

Though it is difficult for some to comprehend, there are people living in our own community that don’t have enough to eat for their families.  The need is greater than it has been in recent memory.

As Mission Arlington prepares to care for people on Thanksgiving morning, more people are requesting assistance than ever before. Last year, the Mission Arlington family helped about 17,000 people. This year, the number is expected to exceed 20,000 people.

This means that Mission Arlington needs more Turkeys and Thanksgiving food than ever in order to meet the need.  It takes over 4,000 turkeys to feed 20,000 people.

Yet, ever generous, this wonderful community steps up to the plate. In the last few days, gifts of turkeys and Thanksgiving food have come in from all parts of our community.

Some are forgoing their own Thanksgiving meal, so that someone else can have one. Others are digging into their savings. Some are searching grocery stores throughout the Metroplex to find the best prices.  Others are e-mailing friends and family, using their influence to multiply their own generosity.

Mission Arlington is blessed and humbled by such amazing grace.  We are grateful for you and so glad to be a small part of this ever-giving community.

This is going to be a truly wonderful Thanksgiving.
