Services for Children and Youth
After-School
In our after-school programs, students receive help with their homework each week during the school year at multiple locations. Transportation is sometimes available to help children take part in this ministry.
Busing
In partnership with the Arlington Independent School District, Mission Arlington takes children to and from school who live too close to the school to be picked up by the school district, but who still have to cross dangerous intersections to arrive safely at school.
Camps
Summer camps are one of Mission Arlington’s specialties. On average, we host about 10 different camps during the month of July. The camps are created with four different groups in mind: Young children, Older Children, Junior and Senior High students. Campers engage in a variety of activities, including crafts, outdoor games, and Bible study. The camps are a creative and fun way to help children and youth grow in their faith.
Carnivals
Mission Arlington works with managers of apartment communities, police and fire departments, and other civic and community organizations to host carnivals for children and teenagers. Popcorn and sno-cone machines, and the Mission Arlington “bouncy house” bring smiles to the faces of children and adults alike.
Childcare
To assist parents who are in crisis or looking for jobs, we provide access to free childcare for homeless and at-risk children. Call the mission offices for more information.
Leagues
During the month of February, Mission Arlington hosts 3-on-3 basketball leagues. Held on consecutive Saturdays, students enjoy competition in a safe environment. During the Fall, Mission Arlington hosts a full-scale soccer league, also held on Saturdays. Awards are given to winning teams and to individuals who demonstrate good sportsmanship. A variety of other leagues are held throughout the year.
Rainbow Express
During the spring and summer, children and teenagers learn about the love of God through Rainbow Express—the Mission’s version of a “Backyard Bible Club.” Puppets, Bible stories, crafts, and snacks, along with a lot of hugs, form the basis of Mission Arlington’s Rainbow Express each year. In 2003, the mission hosted 321 different Rainbow Express events.
Scholarships
A few years ago, a friend of Mission Arlington established a college fund for youth in Mission Arlington Bible studies. The interest from this fund is used each year to help Mission Arlington students with some of the costs associated with starting college. Applications are not open to the general public, but are based upon referrals from Mission Arlington Bible study leaders. For more information about receiving a scholarship or about supporting this scholarship fund, call us at the mission offices.
School Supplies
Many families each year do not have the means to provide supplies for their children at the start of the school year. The community comes together each Summer through Mission Arlington to provide the basic start-up supplies required by the Arlington Independent School District. Rulers, scissors, paper, pencils, notebooks and so much more are provided to students who otherwise would start school without the basic essentials.
Sports Facilities and Fields
Mission Arlington has two facilities dedicated to ministries with and to youth. Game rooms, sports fields, a gymnasium, and more provide the necessary space to make a difference in not just the physical, but also the emotional, and spiritual life of young people. The Mission also offers 3-on-3 basketball leagues, and summer day camps.
